Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh Review
I normally don't write product reviews, however I read them all the time before making a purchase. This Fujitsu ScanSnap S5100M deserves a 5 star rating. Software installation was a breeze and the scanner worked with ease, no mess or fuss. It is a total no-brainer. And talk about a productivity boost, wow, I had no idea what I was missing until I had a dedicated paper scanner. Anything from business cards to 8 1/2 x 14 inch paper, the scans are terrific. The business card OCR software that ships with the scanner is fairly useless (not very accurate), but that product isn't made by Fujitsu. You also get a full version of Adobe Acrobat Professional (version 8). I scan documents (which immediately become PDF files) into my macbook, and I use Paperless from Mariner Software for the document management, the two work perfectly. Highly recommended. The only downside is Fujitsu's sales distribution doesn't lend itself to the big chains so buying the scanner is almost totally an on-line experience, which is too bad, I think if they would connect with the office supply stores and you could see just how easy this scanner works, they would sell more. Well worth the money and the 5 star rating.

Still a problem with Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro - Organizer -
I love everything about the ScanSnap 1500M EXCEPT that the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional that comes with the machine does not work. After lengthy and multiple discussions with Adobe, I was told that there was no "fix" to make AA8P work with my MacBook Pro. While I don't recommend this, I gave in and purchased Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional and it works great. Just wish Fujitsu arranged for a bundled deal for 9 rather than 8. I just decided to get over it because the machine works great otherwise. Neat on the desk when it is folded closed. Very reliable paper feed. Quick and intuitive operation. Great device. Have gotten rid of 90% of the paper in my home.

I got this product to reduce the amount of paper that I retained at home either for work purposes or personallly. Tax records, important documents like birth certificates bills etc.
The product is easy to install, attached it to my imac, installed the software, put documents in the scanner and press the blue button. The software pops up a menu that alllows you to scan to a PDF, word, excel, email etc. The only thought process you need to devote is to creating a organizational structure for storing your documnents. I now keep my important documents at a bank safety deposit box. Its cheaper than buying a safe. Any time I need a copy they are right there on the computer.
One other note you also need to consider your backup strategy. Once you've gone thru the effort you don't want to loose this information. Most of the old tax records I had I shredded (older than 7 years). I thru out most of the work documents also.
If you are looking to free up space at home and reduce paper this is a great product. It scans fast and double sided. The OCR feature is great also.

The scansnap s1500m paired with MacOS 10.5+ makes a fast, efficient, and simple set up for scanning plenty of documents. I have scanned over 200 pgs since I got it and it has saved me a tremendous amount of time over my all-in-one scanner with better results and smaller files. Great choice for a document scanner. I still need my flatbed scanner for oversive and irregular jobs (ie. books) but this one has taken over the bulk of the work. No paper jams yet.
