NeatDesk Desktop Scanner and Digital Filing System Review

The speed of the scan is remarkable. Good quality scans. Only problem I have had was feeding more that one page on a multi-page document.

It works, but... - Aimless Aviator - Central New Hampshire, USA
I just installed 3 (three) of these scanners. Two went to my daughters office to scan patient charts and insurance cards into "Electronic Medical Records", the other went to her home. The scanner itself I have no issues with, it is, in a word, "neat" - minimal footprint, scan is fast and clear.

Setup is a bear. Pour yourself a stiff scotch before starting, and keep the bottle close. The install software supplied on CD with the scanner is out of date, and you must download the updated file from their s-l-o-w server. 18 minutes by DSL, a bit faster by cable at the office. (Scotch #1) Then you have to install the software. They provide none of those little bar-graph progress charts, no spinning hourglass, nothing. You never know if the install is progressing or if it has crashed. It must crash a lot because each install took two tries. (Scotch #2)

After the third install the software finally let me turn on the scanner, which it did not recognize at first. After resetting the scanner, it was recognized, and then automatically downloaded and re-installed the software a third time; after which it told me "A newer version of this software is available, would you like to download it now?" I threw away the glass and reached for the bottle...

The scanners at the office function well, they are driven by our office management software with no problems noted. I am still trying to get the home machine to operate, "Neat Works" seems to want something more than a simple document and a button push but I can't figure out what. Maybe it's the scotch.

Product is decent. Support is horrible and you will need it eventually - Mark Calhoun - Overland Park, KS United States
Used the product for a year with few issues and liked it okay. Then I started getting error messages on items I had scanned (and destroyed the originals). Contacted support two months ago and issue is still not resolved. They only communicate via e-mail and take a very long time to respond. I was instructed to not use the product until they got back to me. That was 3 weeks ago. Product is now worthless and I'm switching to a more mainstream and better supported system.

MacOS with Windows 7 under Parallel - anotherguy -
My next computer will probably be a windows machine due to work requirements. I bought a windows version of this scanner but could not download the 64 bit drivers for Windows 7. I was told by the company that it does not support Windows 7 on a Mac running Parallels. I got my money back from Office Max when I returned the machine.
